Introduction
The International Certificate in Construction Health and Safety is suitable for managers and supervisors within the construction industry outside of the UK. It provides a sound breadth of underpinning knowledge that enables them to manage construction risks effectively. Furthermore it is also suitable for those embarking on a career in health and safety.

Benefits
The vast majority of construction injuries, accidents, and ill-health are avoided by good safety management. Therefore effective health and safety management should be recognised as an essential element of a successful management strategy. Many large organisations choose the NEBOSH qualifications as a key part of their supervisors’ or management development programme.

Study time requirements
Unit IGC1: 37 hours tuition and 23 hours private study. Total: 60 hours
Unit ICC1: 68 hours tuition and 29 hours private study. Total: 97 hours
Unit ICC2: 2 hours tuition and 6 hours private study. Total: 8 hours
Therefore program of study need to be based around a minimum of 107 taught hours and approximately 58 hours of private study.

Entry requirements
Candidates should be able to articulate and understand English language properly. Also, candidates should write a short report based on his workplace and this will be discussed by the course provider.

The syllabus is divided into 3 units. Each of the first two units is further divided into a number of elements:

Element 6: Principles of control

Element 8: Occupational incident and accident investigation, recording and reporting

Element 2: Construction site hazards and risk control
Element 3: Movement of people and vehicles-hazards and risk control
Element 4: Musculoskeletal hazards and risk control
Element 5: Work equipment –hazards and risk control
Element 6: Electrical safety
Element 7: Fire safety
Element 8: Chemical and biological health hazards and risk control
Element 9: Physical and psychological health hazards and risk control
Element 10: Working at height- hazards and risk control

COST OF STUDIES

(i) Cost for local students:
The All Inclusive MQA-Approved Cost consisting of Tuition materials, tutorial sessions, NEBOSH registration and exam fees, MES fees, etc for IGC1, ICC1 and ICC2 is Rs60,000/-

(ii) Cost of course delivered in Rodrigues
The All-inclusive cost of tuition materials, tutorial sessions, NEBOSH registration and exam fees, MES fees, and cost of ticket, boarding and lodging for course tutors works out to Rs72,000/- per student and the minimum batch size will be 10 students.

(iii)Cost for International Students for Studies in Mauritius
The cost of studies for students coming from abroad (Africa, Europe, Asia, etc) inclusive of tuition materials, tutorial sessions, NEBOSH registration and exam fees, MES fees, board and lodging, visa formalities, etc works out to USD 2,500/- exclusive of air ticket and medical tests, payable in advance through bank transfer.

(iv) Cost of studies organised in countries outside Mauritius
The All-inclusive cost of tuition materials, tutorial sessions, NEBOSH registration and exam fees, MES fees, and cost of ticket, boarding and lodging for course tutors works out to USD 3,200/- and the minimum batch size will be 10 students, payable in advance through bank transfer.
